Hub 24 Errors and How To Fix Them

Tags: ,

So you have Hub 24 installed on your computer, and now you are trying to use it. The problem is, these error messages keep popping up that say “Power Surge on Port Hub” and you do not know what to do next, or even if you should worry about it. There are a lot of reasons you may be receiving these error messages, and luckily there are several things you can do to fix it.

First, try switching the device plugged into your Hub 24 over to a different USB port. Next, check your power supply to make sure you are not receiving more voltage than your system can safely handle. Or you may need an AC adapter. If your hub port is old, it may be messing up simply because of age. It is also possible that you have too many devices plugged in. Try unplugging everything but the mouse and keyboard and see if that helps you at all.

If you only get the error message when you plug a device into the USB port, you might try a different port and see if that helps. If you only get the error message when using one of the ports, then you should stop using the broken port to avoid further damaging your computer.

If the problem is not with your Port Hub, but with your operating system, which is highly likely with Windows XP SP2, then you should try to work around the problem. Start by running device manager. The fastest way to do this is by clicking on “Run” in your Start Menu and typing in debmgmt.msc, and then clicking okay. Click on the little plus sign next to “USB Controllers” (USB stands for Universal Serial Bus and may be written out).

At this point you have two choices. You can right-click one of the USB Root Hubs and go to the Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and tell it not to inform you of USB Errors. Your other option is to disable the USB Controllers and then reboot your computer, but make sure that you have a non-USB mouse in case it does not work.

If you installed a graphics card or something similar that takes more power than your computer has available you will need to disable it via device manager. If it is damaged, you should remove the card entirely from your computer. If the problem stems from a vital component in your system, such as the motherboard, you will require technical assistance from a computer expert.

The most important thing when troubleshooting this error message is to determine if the problem is with the Hub 24 or if it is internal. To do that, try installing your 24 Port Hub into another computer and see if you still get the same results. If after trying all of the above, you are still receiving a Port Hub error, you can either pay someone to fix it, or purchase a new computer or device.
